HASH HOUSE HARRIERS
enjoy a HILLSIDE RUN

off the Mombasa-Nairobi highway

Coastweek - - The afternoon sun of Saturday last week saw the SWANK Hash House Harriers on their home grounds ... off the Mombasa-Nairobi highway, in Miritini.

The rolling hillsides were a challenge in this season, with their eternal allure but dry footholds.

Rains, long awaited by all, are badly needed here; the riverbeds and the streams have dried up.

The trails are easy to spot and also easy to manipulate by the local urchins.

The trail set by hare Eric 'mouth', was once again his masterpiece.

Winding up the sunny slopes of the denuded hills at gradients that strained the spines, and slippery with dried up gravel that yielded one foothold for every three lost.

First three hills brought the pack to the welcome relief of the first dry Hold, a tiny oasis of banana and coconut groves in the deep riverbeds.

The going from here was tough, with heat, humidity and heartbreak, as there were no Mnazi tappers in sight to furnish the official drink of the coastal team. But one had to move on.

That is what life is all about - at least to reach the home trail for that safe bottle of water.

And after traversing a long trek up and down hill to check the stony river bed.

Once again many thanks to the Hare for the excellent job and the opportunity to witness the majestic sunset.

Next RUN: Saturday 9 March, meet at Blue Room 3:00 p.m. sharp.
