ASTONISHED PACK CAME
ACROSS A HERD OF ORYX

WHILE HASHING THROUGH
BAMBURI FOREST TRAILS

Coastweek - - Question: What's another name for Football ? Answer: Poof-ball.

Hash number 173 was held at the Bamburi Forest Trails.

A much diminished pack this time, but the addition of the French virgin Chantel (Oh Oui) made up for that.

Kama Sutra being a dedicated Hashette arrived for the run despite a burning ulcer.

Not that she could continue but her contribution of samosas to go with the Down Downs was much appreciated.

Eee-Jack-U'r-Late took the French lass and Alice of Wonderland for a walk around the lake while waiting for the ever punctual Mzee Mouth.

A church fundraising was in progress at the butterfly pavilion and the faithful dressed in their Sunday best including Rita and Candy probably wondered who the three 'hobos' eyeing their food were.

Mzee Mouth made it at last and ordered the pack to take up the 10 KM trail again.

Chantel, maskini had to do the 3.6 KM nature walk alone due to her beautiful knees.

So down the cycling trail (without the bikes) again.

Not so wet this time and the trees and undergrowth cut off all outside sounds so it really does feel like you are alone in a massive forest.

One KM mark comes up and while yours truly was gasping for breath, Mzee Mouth and Wonderland Alice strike up a causal conversation on the multitudes of entwined millipedes infesting the ground.

2 KM mark and Rolf's bio-gas plant ahead, the flock of geese giving a honking cheer as the pack ran past.

On and on and On went the trail, a much needed stop at the road junction and On On again.

Five KM mark and Alice feels proud, past the air-strip then and a stop at the start of the shortcut.

Mzee Mouth forces the pack to take the long way; Alice being female wisely takes the shortcut.

So 6 KM mark ahead and looks like we are in Shanzu.

Amazingly the pack comes across a herd of Oryx grazing in a secluded glade.

Those two feet long horns certainly look sharp, but the herd just keep munching as the pack passes.

8 KM mark: The last 2 KM seem never-ending but the butterfly house is ahead at last as well as the young couple expressing their love for each other.

A toast to Pauline Kinoti and other staff of the Bamburi Cement Company for the wonderful setting of the Forest Trails.

Down downs were held at Gecko village where the GM, R'Hole had been press-ganged as barman thus missing the Hash.

Next Week's Run No. 174 - Saturday July 1st 2006 The Butterfly Run - Part III.
