SWANK HASH HOUSE HARRIERS OF MOMBASA INVITE ALL
TO SAVOUR THE JOY OF A FRESH AIR RUN EVERY WEEK ...

Coastweek - -Hash is a wonderful outdoor sport where there are no races to win and no medals to covet.

Essentially a hash run is in off the beaten track routes. A trail is laid by a Hare of the day.

This is marked in such a way that the runners have to use a bit of imagination and keen sense of spotting them.

Mostly the front runners do this and the rest of the  pack follows.

There are occasional false trails and check-backs that enable the slow pacers to keep up with the F.R.B s.

Those who can not run or jog along keep up the pace with a brisk walk.

The idea is to have a run and fun as a group.

Being a flexible sport all age groups can take part comfortably at their own pace.

The only criterion is that one should be fit to at least walk a few kilometers.

The camaraderie that builds up can be an asset to people who have nothing else to do except watch the idiot-box.

The SWANK HASH HOUSE HARRIERS of Mombasa invite all to join in and  savour the joy of a fresh air run every week.

The run no. 81  was set in the rolling hills on Husseini Dairy Farm at Nguu Tatu.

The classic case of Hash mismanagement was evident in the start when the Hare WETHOLE promptly forgot the point where she had marked the Home start base.

An historic first Car Hash ensued on the race track (Mombasa Hashers are good at many firsts !) and with much fumbling and juggling the group was led to the base.

This hilarious affair continued for the first 20 minutes when everyone got lost in every other direction except on the right trail !

The inbuilt radar of the hare too was off-duty and she too decided to join in the fray hoping against hope that someone found the trail and led everyone right.

This was finally done and a reverse Hash run of a Hare following the pack was set into motion successfully. Another first.

Everyone arrived at the single dry hold and thereafter daringly tackled the tough climbs and rough falls accompanied by a stunningly beautiful sunset to reach the Home base.

Next Run: MAZERAS on 26 JUNE 2004. Meet at Blue Room
2:30 p.m. for lift. For more info, visit our  SWANK website:
