THE
LONG AND WINDING ROAD THAT LEADS THROUGH
MAZERAS
virgin trail laid by Hare Maria
Kamau
.Coastweek
- - The latest Hash run of June 26 was a real bone-tester
!
The virgin trail
laid by Hare Maria Kamau
,who had no inkling that Mazeras actually existed (having seen only
the slopes of Mt. Kenya), was a great job, ably assisted by
Athman.
|
The trail was long ,winding through temporary streams and gullies
some six feet deep.
An auspicious crowd of thirteen Hashers started off
from Mazeras railway station to cross the iron snakes and set
off 'Westwards Ho', challenged after every hundred yards by a
'check' and more search runs.
The Great Hashman in the Sky had not yet released His
rain switches and the weather was sultry but sun-free.

|
The undulating countryside was revealed in it's full glory
and every one agreed that this was a wonderful day for lucky fellows
to run, slip and fall on tilled fields or dried up rivers on a
Saturday afternoon.
Then followed a tail of respectable bunch of village
urchins.
Fortunately the Hash Horn Steve Cockpit was in form; pinging
out notes, which he swore were bars from a Mozart Sonnata practiced
overnight.
|
|
Though no one agreed to this in theory, the magic did
seem to work as he led the child brigade like a veritable
'Pied Piper of Mazeras'.
All sixty or less of them rode to the finishing hold
following the clarion call of ON-ON and enjoyed the sweets
that kept streaming from the Hare's bag of
goodies. |
The pack had a more sour and liquid refreshment fermenting
fruitfully.
The group mentally paid their respects to the dear departed
souls of a local secondary school that had witnessed a terrible
tragedy a few years back, and homed on to the base.
Another successful Run.
