Run No. 127 - 7th May 2005 - Report

Shanzu / Bamburi

Last week’s hash was an essentially flat and long run taking in the sprawling development that once flanked the eastern arm off Bamburi/Shanzu.

Starting from the Grandmasters den, the GECKO VILLAGE, the pack struggled to find trail marks that were supposed to NOT have been rain washed, but actually most of them WERE. Part instinct and partly the curious eyes of the heavy traffic on Malindi Highway kept everyone on their toes.

Hare Eric Murunga, with night vision implants and sugar candy legs, had set the trail in darkness, on the eve of a heavy Saturday shower and wonderfully melted away with the rains. The SWANKERS were left partly orphaned in the disabled hands of yours truly, who, having lost all sense of direction tried to set the pack on a wild goose chase with vaguely remembered hints that the Hare had murmured in her sleepy ears the night before.

Luckily the recycled hasher Athman, did remember some of the stretches that he had helped lay, and managed to lead the pack to right and left as his fancy took him in absence of visible marks. But not before a clean 7 km was trekked in an hour and a half, did he lead everyone to the true wet hold; the ocean front. Refreshing breeze and a sudden realization of parched throats at the sight of all that water led the pack back to Home base by a short cut demanded through the buttered road that leads to the first citizen of this town.

Good experience for the returnee Hasher Sammy ”KOSOVO” and visiting virgin hasher Shezad.
