Tears Over Goose Lost Sent Us Into The Forest

The concentrated precipitations of the cloud cover over Mombasa and its environs also affected the SWANK Hash House Harriers last Saturday.

The decided venue once again was Mtwapa, yet another hidden trail possibility and a new Hare who had not made up his mind whether to follow or be followed!!!!

Apparently, the news reached his long ears that one of the Hash veterans thereabout was in severe depression; reason being that her pet goose decided to turn eighteen, and fly away to sea. She had cried so much that the already water clogged Mtwapa trails were flooded and the Hash had to be reset at a short notice some place else. At least this was the story at the time of going to the Press.

Anyway, the Band met at the friendly and generous hosts, the Forest Trails and proceeded to tackle the ready trail. Some opted for the bicycle Hash, a variety popular in other countries, but pioneered here by the Mombasa Hashers in their true tradition of doing things different, always, every time. As if this was not enough, they had the park to themselves, save for a honeymooning or moonlighting couple (who else would be crazy enough to be out in or after heavy rains unless they are Hashers or Honeymooners?). The more adventurous decided to see if their light bicycles could float on the myriad new lakes dotting the clearings, thanks to the deluge. But the great Hashman in the sky was not in a benevolent mood for miracles and the Swankers soon found themselves in a submerging Ark minus their partners.

The wannabe Hare decided he would never tackle a puddle again, even in his Benz, nor commiserate with ladies that loose their goose, much to the mirth of all the others. Yours truly also took a tumble from the bike Humpty-Dumpy fashion and ended up with more wounds to the pride than body. Others stood erect despite the mushy jungle floor and an impromptu waterfall.

But the afternoon was gainfully spent, with sweat pouring and drinks savoured.
