Run No. 151 - 7th January 2006 - Report

Singing on Nguu Mbili

Following on from the universally acclaimed Run No. 150 on Mtwapa Creek, Run No. 151 was also a classic, being set by Simba, a seasoned Mombasa Hasher. The trail was laid at Nguu Tatu and the beginning was tricky – the pack had trouble finding the true path but sure enough it led up the highest hill where there is a new Safaricom tower. The magnificent views were well appreciated once the hounds, horrors and harriettes had got their breath back.

As the weather was so fine, a rendition of “Singing in the Rain” was led by GM “R’Hole". From this hold the trail then took a fiendish dive down a black run piste to the next hold on the murram road to the dump site. Here the pack was caught by Eric “Mouth” Rupia who, nowadays, sports a fine kinye in the vain hope that it brings him heshimu in Durumaland.

The route back to the water tanks was not as simple as it first appeared. This time, the trail shot off to the right, bushwhacking up through some thick mustuni, climbing to another great hilltop vista. At this stage, the On Inn back to the start was quite welcome. Some of the pack insisted on legging back from the water tanks to the circle at Turkey Bayse. Religious advisor “Mouth” welcomed back the returnees and Simba was congratulated on setting such a challenging trail.

Sinners included “Huge Black meat” for impertinently overtaking the GM whilst enjoying his usual position at the head of the pack, and “Wethole” who was sporting a dirty bottom from negotiating the black run on her behind.
